来自英国萨西克斯郡Battle小镇，从小一起长大的Keane乐团，成员只有三名，鼓手Richard、键盘手Tim、再加上主唱Tom，独缺吉他手，英国各大乐评很爱拿这点来大作文章，其实没有吉他手是因为原来的吉他手离团，“Keane”觉得他们的强项“钢琴”可以弥补吉他的不足，所以暂时不想找替补人选，结果这却成为Keane乐团独特的曲风和特色。在走唱英国小镇6年，以及于独立厂牌Fierce Panda(发掘Coldplay、Supergrass)发行两张单曲之后，2003年底Keane乐团正式加盟环球音乐，他们的首支单曲“Somewhere Only We Know”登上英国金榜Top 3，成为2004年各大乐评眼中的“21世纪披头四”。2004年在最具公信力的媒体“英国国家广播公司BBC”年度乐评票选活动中，更获选为“2004年最具潜力团体”，一时之间，Keane受到前所未有的注目，首张专辑的发行成为2004万众瞩目的盛事。
没有吉他手，“Keane”以三种基因创造出全新音乐：钢琴、鼓、以及歌声。透过美好的旋律以及充满感情的简约编曲，把原本的“弱点”转化为突出的特色，Keane反而异军突起，显得鹤立鸡群、与众不同，受到各界一致的推崇。钢琴编织出旋律、鼓给予骨干，而歌声赋予不朽的灵魂。出道至今Keane总免不了被拿来和Coldplay做比较，被形容为Coldplay的最大梦魇。在《Hopes and Fears》专辑中，与其说主唱Tom的歌声表现很像Coldplay的主唱Chris Martin，还不如说他比较近似于Radiohead的Thom Yorke，因为他的歌喉更纯净，同时把假音的技巧发挥得更好，有时候甚至令人联想起已故的Queen合唱团主唱Freddy Mercury。在名混音师Mike Spike Stents (Madonna、U2)的打造下，主唱Tom充满穿透力、富于表情的歌声与丝丝入扣的动人旋律合而为一。第二波单曲“Everybody's Changing”中Tom的歌声表现直逼乐坛前辈Coldplay、Queen的透澈清亮，明快华丽的编曲，行云流水的钢琴主线无不突显了“Keane”的音乐特色。
虽然传媒整天将Keane和Coldplay做比较有些炒作的嫌疑，但其实这两个团还真的渊源颇深。他们都是学院派的乐团，在学校就玩音乐组团，很有礼貌，有良好的教育背景。高中后，Tim到伦敦大学修古典音乐，鼓手Richard念地理，主唱Tom则选择了历史，同时也成立了现在的Keane乐团，并决定要到伦敦好好闯一闯。那时候键盘手Tim因为修课而认识了Coldplay的Chris Martin，Chris很欣赏Tim的音乐才华，还正式邀请他加入菜鸟时代的Coldplay担任键盘手，Tim虽然非常感兴趣，但是考虑到当时Keane乐团也已经成立，不能背弃朋友，Tim只好放弃加入Coldplay，但是他们还是会留意彼此的进展，当Coldplay的首张专辑在许多报纸及音乐杂志上获得空前好评时，Tim也为打从心底里为他们高兴。现在“Keane”也获得了成功，Tim和他的伙伴们付出的不懈努力终于得到了回报。
