For as much as I know about the modern world of commercialism, people are continuously being classified and falling into one category or another. The planet earth hence becomes a big supermarket. There are the shelves of gay and straight, black and white, the educated and the innocent, the GWB believers and the sane, and etc. This materialization of human beings may sound cruel, but it forms the foundation for a society of variety, meaning, if you don’t go with Natural food, you can always choose the Healthy food (But sorry there’s not a third option in supermarkets these days; In case you haven’t realized, anything that doesn’t have “97% fat free” must be labelled “Natural” to tell you it may not make you slim, but c’mon, it is natural!).
Unfortunately, when this process of human classification comes to Chinese, no variety of results can be derived. Because no matter what standard you judge them with, you’ll always end up with one answer.
Civility? Well, we always have their mobiles on in cinema or even classical concerts.
Sexuality? Of course “straight” is the only answer you can get! What, what have you heard?
Language? If we are in a group, we always speak Chinese as loud as we can in any public occasions including funerals; if we are alone, we always have our mouth shut no matter how hard you try to encourage us to talk in class.
Racism? Of course we hate the Japanese to the last atom in their ashes. But we always enjoy watching Japanese porn and when it comes to little electronic toys, Sony is always our favourite.
