Part A

Dear Tom:

I appreciate your invitation to your birthday party tonight. It’s very nice of you to give me such a chance to share the happiness of your birthday, and I wish I could attend it, but my family plan to go to a concert tonight performed by the Berlin Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra in the Baoli Theater. As you know my family seldom goes out together like this and the BPSO is one of my favorite orchestras in worldwide. So I don’t think I can attend your birthday party tonight, as I’ll certainly accompany my family.

I wish you a happy birthday. Have a good time with your friends in the party.

       Yours Sincerely,

Li Ming

Part B

Of Ideal

As is shown in the picture, a boat with all sails set is sailing on the sea. The waves are pushing it forward, and the two sailors on board are navigating its direction. How are the men aware of their way to the destination? — By the light emanate from the starfield..

Like sailors are guided by the stars, our lives take ideals as beacon lights illuminating our way towards goals. A person without ideal is like a blind man walking without his seeing eye dog. He’ll have no idea of what’s in front of him, which makes him unable to step further, fearing of being tripped. But When one’s in possession of ideals, he’ll get the stars to lighten the path ahead. Then he can make a choice: to forsake those long and snaky ones and take a shortcut, which’ll lead you to the final victory.

So that’s what the wise told us to do: ideals are like stars; they encourage us and lead us the direction of moving forwards. Every determined person ought to have his own ideal.
