Yao Ming is going to be huge in the NBA, no doubt about that (Let's just pray he is going to be healthy and stay competitive most of the time). Our National Team is elevated to another totally different level with Yao Ming playing strong inside. His ankle is still in the recovery stage. I don't really like some media reports trashing Wang Zhizhi and exalting Yao Ming to the skies. We need a team to play. Yao Ming is going to be a big factor but other positions have to be strengthened if China wants to go any further other than Asia. Guards, power forwards, center back-ups, small forwards- they all need to grow themselves quickly.
Is Houston Rockets going to advance further this coming season? With Anderson signed and Deke resigned, Swift in the middle, Houston has a good reason to charge. Bob Sura (the most hated rocketsman in China) is likely to control the ball. Yao Ming has to touch the ball more often (many Chinese fans downplay the role of Yao on the team and some think Yao needs to work on Catching the ball) and he should be the go-to guy in the seasons to come. Tracy (sounds like a girl's name, um?) and Yao can be a strong one-two punch kind of tandem like Shaq and Kobe in their best days. Chemistry is the key.
Anyone who has watched the Year of Yao knows how difficult it is for a Chinese to be something on the court. Yao said he feels that he carries the hopes of 1.3 billion Chinese people. That can be a double-edge sword. He has to be more consistent with his play and be as athletic as possible. The day Yao Ming is a strong force on both ends of the floor, Houston Rockets will become a championship material (as well as contender).
