The face of China is changing so rapidly sometimes we don't even have time to digest what has happened, what mpact it has on the population.
How is the country divided over some big issues
(1) CCTV gala- Lots of people I met said there was really nothing to watch and the programs were challenging the limit of people's patience. Or Some people say the programs are for northerners and it is not really representative of what China is all about. The text messages made this year's gala so profitable that CMCC couldn't help giving out its earnings on the Internet only a few days after the CCTV show. So should there be a gala for the North and another for the South? Is the country deeply divided over this?
(2) Li Yuchun- the Innermongolia Yogurt Supergirl Contest Champion of 2005. Her androgynous image has brought fame and fortune to her but there are always some different voices along the way (since the moment she was crowned). Detractions, maybe. A lot of people claim there are some undertable shady deals behind the contest and Li was eliminated early but pushed back to the stage by a strong backstage supporter of some kind. Money is the name of the game, some will say. Meanwhile, there are a whole bunch of fans who would't even shed a tear if something happpens to their dads and moms, jump up and down, scream and spend money on everything about Li Yuchun. Has China lost it touch with its young people? Has the parents lost track of what is going on in their children's lives?
(3) Yao Ming- The day Yao Ming set his foot on American soil, Two strikingly different camps has been fighting like, what can I say, mad dogs: Yao-lovers and Yao-haters. You meet a lot of fans of Yao Ming in real life. Yao haters reside on the Internet. They slash Yao for his alleged "softy performances, disgracing China and the Chinese people" no matter how Yao plays on the court. The e-generation has produced many great entrepreneurs and online columnists but there are some bad eggs in the basket too. Some brandish their dirty language all over the BBS, forums and such. Some just want to cause a stir because they have nothing else to do.
