To get started developing for Windows Mobile 5.0, follow these six easy steps:
1. Uninstall Visual Studio.
Uninstall all other versions of Visual Studio. If you've been using previous builds of Visual Studio 2005 Beta, it's recommended that you start with a clean computer or follow these uninstall tips. If you have eMbedded Visual C++ or other tools installed, consult the appendix to the white paper Introduction to Development Tools for Windows Mobile-based Devices.
2. Install Visual Studio 2005 Beta 2.
Visual Studio 2005 is the single tool for Windows Mobile 5.0 application development. Until it is available, use Visual Studio 2005 Beta 2. Look out for the Application Readiness Program for Windows Mobile 5.0 coming later this Summer on the MSDN Mobile Developer Center. Through the Windows Mobile 5.0 Application Commercialization Program you will be able to use Visual Studio 2005 Beta 2 to ship commercial applications for Windows Mobile 5.0.
3. Install the DMA Transport Update for Visual Studio 2005 Beta 2.
This patch improves the device connectivity performance of Visual Studio 2005 Beta 2 by using DMA instead of an IP connection.
4. Install ActiveSync 4.0 Developer Preview.
ActiveSync allows for connectivity between Visual Studio 2005 and Windows Mobile devices.
5. Install Windows Mobile 5.0 SDKs.
The Windows Mobile 5.0 SDKs for Pocket PC and Smartphone enable development for Windows Mobile-based devices in Visual Studio 2005.
6. Optional Tools.
