阿特拉斯

在希腊神话中，Atlas是一位巨神，他在与主神宙斯的斗争中失败，宙斯惩罚他用自己的双肩托住天空。而非洲西北部的阿特拉斯山脉据说就是他的腹部变成的。如今在欧洲许多较古老的庭院中，常可看到一位大力士背负地球的雕像，那就是还在“服刑”的Atlas。

阿特拉斯(Altas)是希腊神话里的擎天神，是泰坦巨神的一族。他被宙斯降罪来用双肩支撑苍天。传说中，北非国王是阿特拉斯的后人。

天神乌拉诺斯与地神盖亚之子。因反抗宙斯失败，被罚在世界最西处用头和手顶住天。欧洲人多以他的画像装饰地图封里，由此称地图集为“阿特拉斯”。

希腊神话中双肩撑天的Titan，Titan神族被新神族征服后，新神族命阿特拉斯巨人负天。大力神赫拉克勒斯奉命前往圣园偷金苹果的时候，普罗米修斯建议他派阿特拉斯去完成这个任务，于是赫拉克勒斯答应在阿特拉斯离开的这段时间里亲自负天，没想到阿特拉斯在摘得金苹果后不愿再从赫拉克勒斯的肩上把青天接过来，赫拉克勒斯只好用计脱身。

Atlas (same name in Greek and Roman mythology) was the son of Iapetus. Unlike his brothers Prometheus and Epimetheus, Atlas fought with the other Titans supporting Cronus against Zeus (Jupiter). Due to Cronus's advance age Atlas lead the Titan's in battle. As a result he was singled out by Zeus for a special punishment and made to hold up the weight of the heavens on his back so that the world and heavens would not join and revert to the original state of chaos. Many of the others who fought on the side of the Titans were kept for eternity in Tartarus (The unpleasant part of Hades).

Calypso：

海上女神，Atlas的女儿；爱上了凡间的英雄俄底修斯，但由于宙斯的阻挠未能与其成婚。

Calypso
Calypso was a nymph, the daughter of the Titan Atlas. In Greek mythology, Calypso was a sea nymph who inhabited the island of Ogygia. After the last of Odysseus' men had perished at sea, she waylaid the homeward-bound Odysseus. Odysseus himself was washed ashore on Ogygia, where Calypso became enamored of him, taking him as her lover and promising him immortality if he would stay with her. Odysseus refused her offer, wishing to return home to Ithaca and to his wife, Penelope. But Calypso refused to let him leave, and held him prisoner for seven years. Finally Athena complained of Odysseus' plight to Zeus, and Zeus sent Hermes to Ogygia to order Calypso to set Odysseus free. Calypso complied reluctantly, allowing Odysseus to construct a small boat and set sail from the island.

Odysseus -  The protagonist of the Odyssey. Odysseus fought among the other Greek heroes at Troy and now struggles to return to his kingdom in Ithaca. Odysseus is the husband of Queen Penelope and the father of Prince Telemachus. Though a strong and courageous warrior, he is most renowned for his cunning. He is a favorite of the goddess Athena, who often sends him divine aid, but a bitter enemy of Poseidon, who frustrates his journey at every turn.

Odysseus has the defining character traits of a Homeric leader: strength, courage, nobility, a thirst for glory, and confidence in his authority. His most distinguishing trait, however, is his sharp intellect. Odysseus’s quick thinking helps him out of some very tough situations, as when he escapes from the cave of the Cyclops in Book 9, or when he hides his slaughter of the suitors by having his minstrel strike up a wedding tune in Book 23. He is also a convincing, articulate speaker and can win over or manipulate his audience with ease. When he first addresses Nausicaa on the island of Scheria, for example, his suave, comforting approach quickly wins her trust.

Calypso 和 Odysseus的故事

后来，古希腊大英雄奥德修斯（Odysseus）不幸在Ogygia沉船，被Calypso救起，Calypso爱上了他，求他留在自己身边，说只要他愿意就给他永生。

Odysseus拒绝了，因为他一心爱自己的凡人妻子，女神没有办法，只好用魔力迷惑他，把他留在身边整整七年，在这期间还给他生了个儿子名叫Nausinous

据说，女神是一个完美的情人，Odyssuse在她的岛屿过着天堂一般的生活

Odysseus lives in paradise: 
woods around the cave, had many beautiful trees, birds and wild life. Ripe grapes, clear and cold springs, meadows with beautiful flowers and vegetables. 

然而Odyssuse是一个战士，当世界尚且处于战争，他就无法过天堂般的日子，他内心挣扎不止想要离开，而Calypso则想尽一切办法留住他。

最后是雅典娜到宙斯那里去告状，要求宙斯直接干预此事，主神派遣了赫尔穆斯去到岛上，Calypso虽然遵从命令，却非常不情愿，她说：

"啊！残酷而嫉妒的神！难道你们真的不愿意看到一位天仙许配给一个凡人吗？是我把他从死亡中救了出来。当时他抱着破船板，随波逐流，一直漂到我的海岛。今天，你们却在责怪我为什么把他留下，是吗？他的大船被雷电击中，他的勇敢的朋友们全都葬身鱼腹了，我以伟大的同情心接纳了这个落难的人，精心调理他，喂养他，还答应让他永葆青春，与天地同寿。但宙斯的旨意不可违背，那就只好让他回到海上去漂流吧……"

他自己用五天时间造成了小船，她放他走了，

而他走了以后，她死于心碎。

据说，奥德修斯用了“十年”的时间回到家里。
